Environmental overview

Namdeb views the preservation of the environment as a high priority and has developed stringent environmental standards to enforce this view.

The company is currently implementing an environmental management system (EMS) compliant with the international standard ISO14001. The EMS will guide the step-by-step implementation of environmental management plans to improve Namdeb's environmental performance.

Mining Area 1, Orange River and Elizabeth Bay mining areas have all been certified to ISO14001 standards.

The main environmental issues that are addressed by the EMS are rehabilitation of mining areas and old infrastructure, scrap and waste management and pollution prevention and remediation.

Environmental Impact Assessments are undertaken for all new projects and programmes that may have an effect on the environment.
