How can I visit Oranjemund?Oranjemund is situated inside the Sperrgebiet (Diamond Area No 1), an area of restricted access. In terms of the Namibian Diamond Act, all visitors are required to have a Restricted Area Permit (formerly a Diamond Area Permit) before they may enter the town. Permits can be obtained by applying through a host person or business enterprise in Oranjemund. If you do not have a host in Oranjemund, please contact the Namdeb Security Department's Access Control section or the Namibian Police's Protected Resources Unit at Oranjemund for further guidance and advice. (Tel +264 63 232 596)
Please note that if you are granted access to Oranjemund Town, this does not automatically imply that you will be permitted into Namdeb's production, mining areas or sampling areas. Applicants must submit a Certificate of Good Conduct from their country of origin with their application forms, before this access can be granted. The Namibian Police's Protected Resources Unit or the Namdeb Security department at Oranjemund and Lüderitz will be able to furnish you with more details.
Should you wish to visit Elizabeth Bay Mine or Namdeb's Northern Areas operations, applications for security clearance can be submitted to the Namibian Police's Protected Resources Unit at Lüderitz (Tel +264 61 203 257).
