His Excellency, Hifikepunye Pohamba, the President of the Republic of Namibia, accompanied by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Honourable Erkki Nghimtina, visited Oranjemund on 2 February 2006 as part of the familiarization tour of the Karas Region. Other dignitaries accompanying the President were The Karas Regional Governor, Honourable Dawid Boois,  members of the National Assembly and  Regional Council. The Head of the State visited Uubvlei Workshops Complex, Uubvlei Hostel , U70X Bedrock Site and the Sorthouse in Mining Area 1, De Beers Marine Namibia vessel mv Ya Toivo and a short tour of town.
	At the dinner hosted in his honour, the State President expressed his happiness with the Namibianisation progress at both Namdeb and De Beers Marine Namibia. He said that he was impressed by the high tech equipment being used by both companies. He applauded the mature employee-employer relationship  being maintained and good progress with regards to improving employees’ welfare.
